Royal Pavilion
The Royal Pavilion is one of Britain’s most eccentric and extravagant palaces.

Located in the cultural heart of Brighton, this exotic palace has a colourful history.

Built as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV, the Royal Pavilion mixes Regency grandeur with the stunning interior visual style of India and China. Built when Brighton was the heart of fashionable Regency society, the Royal Pavilion was also used by King William IV and Queen Victoria.

King George IV was a cultured and well-educated man, enthusiastic about the visual arts, music and architecture. He enjoyed entertaining and surrounded himself with courtiers and fashionable society guests. It is these flamboyant, artistic tastes, combined with George IV’s desire to impress, that are evident throughout his beloved Royal Pavilion. The palace became in itself a complete work of art, furnished with exquisite French, English and Chinese export furniture and objects, and adorned with gilded dragons, carved palm trees and imitation bamboo staircases.

Enjoy a drink at the Nyetimber Sky Bar, one of the most unique bars in the UK, serving a range of local drinks including Nyetimber, an award-winning sparkling wine. Visit the beach building for the free ‘British Airways i360: How it Was Built’ exhibition, enjoy a meal at West Beach Bar & Kitchen or West Pier Tea Room, or browse the BAi360 shop for a range of gifts and souvenirs, many created by local Brighton artists.

During the summer months customers enter the pod from the open air boarding deck, overlooking the beach and the West Pier. Please note that the weather on the seafront can be changeable and, as the boarding deck is outdoors, customers should be prepared with wind or rain proof clothing.

There is so much to enjoy at British Airways i360 that we expect your visit to last around one hour (or longer if you are dining). Pod flights depart every 30 minutes and each flight lasts approximately 25 minutes (including boarding and disembarking).

The Royal Pavilion started as a modest 18th century lodging house. Architect Henry Holland helped George, Prince of Wales, transform his humble seaside retreat into a handsome neo-classical villa – known as the Marine Pavilion.

In 1815 George, by now Prince Regent, hired the eminent architect John Nash, to redesign the building in the Indian style. The work was completed in 1823 by which time George had become King. It is this building, an instantly recognisable symbol of Brighton, which we see today.

Why visit the Royal Pavilion?
We're a former Royal Palace right in the city centre, surrounded by the beautiful Royal Pavilion Gardens. We have audio guides in many languages, a fabulous Tearoom and well stocked gift shop. There's loads to do nearby and we're only a 5 min walk from the beach, so why not make a day of it?
